The beginning of a series of the scientific conferences entitled Transport and Logistics is closely related to the TEMPUS project JEP 17019-02 dealing with the “Introduction and Development of a New Study Profile: Transport Flows and Logistics”, which was realized, from 2004 to 2006, at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Niš. The project was funded by the European Union with a consortium consisting of Universities in Magdeburg, Munich, Vienna, Dresden, Karlsruhe, Sofia and Niš (coordinator). As an integral part of the project, the first two scientific seminars, entitled Transport and Logistics, were held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Niš, in 2004 and 2006.

In order to preserve the continuity, the Department of Transport Engineering and Logistics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Nis has kept on organizing scientific and professional meetings under the same name Transport and Logistics. The third and fourth symposia were held in 2008 and 2011 as symposia with international participation, while the fifth one was held in 2014 as an international conference.

The agenda of the meetings on Transport and Logics held so far has included papers presented by scientists, researchers, experts and businessmen from Serbian and foreign universities, institutes, companies and institutions.  The content of presented papers was related to the following topics: business logistics, technical logistics, traffic logistics, urban logistics and transport engineering, to name but a few.

For each of the Transport and Logistics conferences there was also an exhibition arranged for showing: the manufacturing programs of Serbian and foreign manufacturers of transport and logistics systems, mobile information technology and software, as well as student works and publications on transport and logistics.

At the third Transport and Logistics conference awards were established to be granted to the outstanding scientific researchers, young researchers and companies for their contribution to the development of transport engineering and logistics.

Remaining faithful to the original mission, all the past Transport and Logistics conferences held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Nis have contributed to the education of personnel for basic, applied and development research in the field of transport engineering and logistics.
